Explanation Book Pack

Explanation is explaining natural and social phenomena and is usually written in simple present tense using connectives of time - then, next, after and cause and effect - for heightened understanding.

Conventions of explanation are used in the form of a general statement to introduce the topic followed by a series of logical steps explaining how or why something occurs. There is also some use of the passive tense.

The Non-Fiction Genre Book Packs have been put together to give examples of the different writing structures used in information books. Some books do not stick to one writing form throughout and different structures are evident within one text. Each book chosen for these packs contain the most predominant structure but can, of course, be used to show that different writing forms are used within one publication.
