the Right Books for your School

We understand how important it is as a teacher to choose the right books for your pupils, not only to help them enjoy reading but also as a way of enhancing their literacy learning. Therefore we have put together our top tips that we believe will help assist your choices in choosing books for children that will both expand their imagination and literacy ability.

  • Include books written by Award Winning Authors
  • Look up current Award Winning fiction books
  • Don't forget to include a range of genres to support the framework for literacy
  • Cater for all your children's abilities and include challenging reads as well as high interest low ability texts
  • Remember to consider race, gender, disability and a range of family lifestyles when choosing your book selection
  • Include books to match your topic work
  • Choose some titles with contents, glossary and index etc
  • Replace out of date information books regularly
  • Remember to choose some non-fiction reading for pleasure, especially "boy-friendly" titles
  • Don't forget general reference and encyclopaedia
