King Charles III Coronation: Teacher Resources

On 6th May 2023, we will be celebrating King Charles III Coronation. To commererate this special occasion, there are a number of wonderful books that have been printed, with titles suitable for EYFS up to KS2.

There have been a range of teacher resources and activities created too, to help schools honour this significant event, and we have pulled together some of them to help inspire you, guide your lessons or help shape your celebrations in school.

With it being such a once in a lifetime event, it isn't necessarily a famililar topic to teach, but we hope that by using high quality texts and well thought out resources, you are provided with an exciting opportunity to take part in history.

Just a note - we haven't helped to create any of these resources, we're simpy just sharing them because we think they're great!

The Royal Collection Trust have created a whole host of resources for you to use. The three main sections include:

  • What is the Role of our King?
  • What is a Coronation?
  • Take part in history and celebrate

Historic Royal Palaces have put together resources to use primarily in assemblies, but they are suitable for standalone lessons too. Their focus is around the Coronation itself, looking at the significance of the event along with values and symbols. They have also linked some of the resources to History/Citizenship and History/Art and Design, which is very useful! The Historic Royal Palace have resources suitable for Primary, Secondary and SEND schools, and they hope to assist in this transition to a new era.

Oxford Children's have created a resource that accompanies The King's Runaway Crown by Rosalind Spark, especially for Year 1. Shared by The Reading Agency, the powerpoint that you can download features activities around predicting, reading, comprehension, organsing a story map, and more, as well as colouring sheets!

You can download a fun filled Coronation activity pack from Andersen Press. With wordsearches, colouring in pages and more, featuring lots of Andersen Press' Royal picture books (including the brand new The King's Pants!) there is something for every child.

DK have also created a range of free teaching resources for Early Years, Key Stage 1, and Key Stage 2 to help celebrate the Coronation. You can download lesson plans and presentations, or other activities to help you commemorate the special event in your classroom. They even have a brand new kahoot quiz to test your student's knowledge!

We hope that you have managed to find some wonderful resources to help you celebrate the upcoming Coronation!
