Chris Riddell is a South African-born, British accomplished artist and illustrator. He has won many awards for his work, including the Nestlé Children's Book Prize, the Red House Children's Book Award, the Costa Children's Book Award and the only person to win the Yoto Carnegie Medal for Illustration 3 times!
Riddell’s career began as an illustrator of children’s books, having been introduced to a publisher by his art tutor, who just so happened to be Raymond Briggs! He developed his career as an illustrator alongside working as a resident political cartoonist for The Economist and The Observer.
Riddell has created much-loved works both alone and in collaboration with other talented writers. Some of the most popular of these titles include the 'Goth Girl' and 'Ottoline' series, 'The Ghost of a Mouse,' and 'The Emperor of Absurdia.' For his visionary and game-changing contribution to children's literature, he was awarded the title of Children's Laureate between 2015 and 2017.
