An informative and analytical training course with Maddy Barnes about what we can learn from theEnglish SATs and the 2023 moderation cycle for writing

Overview

Delegates will have the opportunity to analyse and discuss the 2023 English SATs. They will also identify implications for the teaching of reading; writing and GPS for all year groups in 2023/2024. A range of teaching approaches will be shared throughout the day including teaching grammar in a context; modelling comprehension strategies; establishing the balance between comprehension & decoding and identifying termly age-related writing standards. Delegates will be able to network with each other throughout the day.

Objectives

►To share an analysis of the 2023 Reading tests and identifythe main implications for teaching
►To share an analysis of the 2023 GPS tests and identify themain implications for teaching
►To share an analysis of the 2022-2023 writing moderationcycle and identify implications for all year groups
►To identify how we can prepare pupils to reach the expectedstandard and greater depth standard in reading and writing in2024
►To engage readers and inspire writers by choosing highquality texts and related writing opportunities to prepare forthe 2024 assessments
►To explore a variety of approaches used to embed GPSwithin the everyday English lesson
►To examine different question types and the skills requiredto answer them
►To share the newest books that can support learning in theclassroom
